Our Story
From The Ground Up
Our story began in 2012 at a different location, near to Summerhall, on a road called Mentone Gardens - can you guess where we got the inspiration for our name? We built our studio there, however as luck would have it, we were destined for better things, as 16 months later we found ourselves in our forever home at Summerhall. After many self-built wall partitions, and help from a few fantastic friends of the studio, we created a place we have been proud of for over 10 years now.
About The Owner
Our founder and owner, Julian Vaughan, is a passionate musician who wanted to create an environment where artists could come together to create and collaborate.
“The motivation to start a Music Studio establishment was to provide rehearsal and recording spaces of a certain quality that I would want to use as a musician myself. I consider the facility to be a workspace for musicians who wish to create in an environment that allows them control over the sound they hear and produce - our rooms are designed and treated to give a “dead” flat response.
I am an active supporter of the local music scene, and trustee of the board of Totally Sound. I am also a sponsor of the annual Meadows Festival - an event that specialises in showcasing and uplifting local talent.
We are currently working with Summerhall to provide more opportunities for local musicians to get together, perform, and get involved with staging live events.”

Our Core Beliefs
We believe in creating a safe space for all musicians looking for a place to practice and develop their craft. No matter your age, race, gender, sexuality or ability, you are welcome at Tonegarden! We truly strive for a kind and welcoming atmosphere, and we are constantly looking for feedback from our customers to improve wherever we can.
