Sam is a Scottish teacher, performer, and sessionist, who's twenty years of experience has established SB Lessons as one of the top choices for drum tuition in the city of Edinburgh. His formal education on Edinburgh Napier University's Popular Music degree program gives him a wide-spanning knowledge of all modern contemporary genres, but mainly specialises in rock, pop, metal, electronic, and D&B. Sam takes both a balanced and custom-tailored approach to tuition, prioritizing the students needs while making sure an equal balance of knowledge and enthusiasm is cultivated.
"I count myself lucky that I've never once in my life had a bad teacher. Learning from some of the most understanding, patient, and talented people I've ever known has ultimately been the key to my own teaching success."
Naledi is a piano teacher & professional musician who started classical Piano lessons at age 4, Clarinet lessons at age 7 and progressed through the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, before going on to achieve an HND in Sound Production at Edinburgh College.
"Over the years I have taught a variety of students, ranging from complete beginners, to advanced players, self-taught pianists and students returning to piano from a break. I deliver enjoyable, educational and well-structured lessons to each and every student.
I like to work within the student’s interests so the genre of music we study is completely up to you. Lessons are very much tailored to your needs and centre around what will benefit you most."
Naledi offers both in person lessons, and Zoom lessons (best suited for those who cannot commute). Most students come for in person lessons or do a combination of both. I teach in Edinburgh City Centre at Tonegarden Studios on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Our talented in-house audio engineer Rob Henderson doubles as a bass guitar tutor. He has been playing the bass for over 30 years, and achieved a Diploma in Popular Music at Napier University. Rob previously taught as the Solo Performance Lecturer at Aberdeen College, specifically for bass guitar, so you can be sure that he really knows his stuff!
"I currently teach the following syllabuses; Registry Guitar Tutors (RGT), The ABRSM, and the Rock School."
In terms of teaching style, Rob has a hands on but relaxed approach. He is happy to focus on both the practical and theory aspects of bass as desired, and very willing to try different teaching methods for each student - as one size doesn't fit all!
Julian is offering one-to-one guitar tuition to people of all ages and abilities. He has been playing guitar since the age of 12, and in 1993 he achieved an HND in Modern Musicianship at Edinburgh College, formally known as Jewell and Esk. Since then Julian has aquired wide and varied experience providing guitar tuition, both in schools, and privately.
Lessons are based in the tuition room at Tonegarden Studios.
“I believe the key to good teaching, is to establish what aspects of guitar, and music, truly excites the student, then find ways of breaking it down into achievable goals. I personally like witnessing the “eureka” moment students have, when everything falls into place. It reminds me of the enjoyment I experienced, and continue to, when learning guitar.”
